Parenthetical Observations is a review blog. Mostly books, and mostly romance and YA with a possibility of sci-fi, fantasy, comics, picture books, TV shows, movies, and cartoons. (In other words, I’ll review whatever I feel like reviewing.)
I am a former bookseller at a big chain bookstore (the one that didn’t go out of business). I worked there for 6 years in different areas, finally ending up as the Children’s Department lead, which explains a lot about the books I read. While I still work with children and teens as a tutor, my main focus is on my design business. I have a BFA in Computer Arts with a focus in Graphic Design, and I work as a freelance designer, illustrator, and photographer. My background is in Fine Arts, and I have studied animation. Every November I volunteer as a NYC ML for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), and for the rest of the year I participate in a writer’s workshopping group that can’t decide on a name for itself.
I try to write the type of reviews I like to read. A summary without spoilers, and then an analysis. I spent too many years doing art school critiques to leave it at “It was good I liked it.”
